Top 5 Tips for Working from Home

The current climate means that some people within our Olivine community may be working from home so we thought we would share our top five tips to help keep you focused, productive and connected during your time at home.

1. Set up a dedicated workspace

If you are used to going into an office each day, it is recommended that you try and recreate this at home with a designated physical workspace. It doesn’t have to be in its own room but it should feel as separate from the rest of your home as possible to help you switch on and off each day. Try to make your workspace comfortable with a chair with good back support, lots of natural light and a few decorations.

2. Create a ‘to-do’ list

Each day, write a set to-do list that you need to accomplish throughout the day to help keep you focused on the tasks at hand. This will help you use your time more efficiently and avoid getting distracted.

3. Stay connected

It is important to stay connected and communicate regularly with your colleagues. Along with keeping in regular contact via email and phone conversations, face-to-face communication via video is also a great way to stay in touch. Check in regularly with co-workers about how they are feeling and share any concerns or roadblocks.

4. Make time for physical activity

For many workers it is easy to sit down and stay seated for hours on end, not noticing the day disappear. Set calendar reminders to make sure you ‘step and reset’ every few hours with ten minutes of activity, be it light stretches, a quick walk around the block, or even just making a cup of tea. There are also lots of fitness instructors offering virtual classes you can do from the comfort of your own home.

5. Nutrition and hydration

It is important to make healthy food choices and eat lots of fresh produce to help keep your mind and body active during the day. Enjoy your usual snacks but incorporate ‘real’ meals too and don’t forget to stay hydrated!
